Sister Mary Ellen Doolan, age 97, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Sunday morning, June 5, 2005, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
The former Marion Doolan was born July 28, 1907, in Stark, Wis.,
daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Roechel Doolan. She entered the
convent in 1927 and professed her vows in 1930. Sister Mary Ellen earned
a Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and a
Master of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. Sister
Mary Ellen served as a teacher at Sacred Heart, Manitowoc; st. Mary,
Kaukauna; St. Joseph, Rice Lake, all of Wisconsin, St. Agnes, Mingo
Junction, Ohio; and as an instructor at Holy Family College, Manitowoc.
She also taught in the Diaconate Program, Casa Reina, Gallup, N.M.; the
Adult Education Program at Two Rivers and served as Regional Director of
the Alverno Region and Directress of Postulants and Junior Sisters.
Since 1987, she has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include: the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two
sisters and brothers-in-law: Agnes and Clary Mangen, Elm Grove; and
Virginia and Franklin Lyons, Bayside. Also surviving are nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, where a prayer
service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2005, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc , is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
