Pvt. David William Parker, CSA, was the beloved husband of the former Nancy Silver (daughter of famed Appalachian folk figures Frankie and Charlie Silver), and the devoted father of their children. Born to William and Mary Polly (nee Epley) Parker, Pvt. Parker had been a farmer before his enlistment in a North Carolina regiment. He had been wounded several times during the Civil War, and tragically died of his wounds just as it ended. In his 38th year at the time of his death, he was buried in a mass grave for Confederate soldiers in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. A memorial plaque at the base of his wife's headstone honors his memory here.
