"The death of Ora O. Backus of Morris, who recently celebrated his ninetieth birthday, occurred Tuesday morning at about 3 o'clock at the home of his son, Stanley S. Backus at Hartwick, where he had come a short time ago, to spend the winter. Born June 24, 1850, in the town of Pittsfield, a son of Solomon S. and Betsey (Angell) Backus, he married Clara Wing, a daughter of the late Walter Wing of Morris. Three children were born to them, one of whom, Walter A. Backus, died April 10, 1907. Mrs. Backus died January 19, 1932 ... Survivors, to whom friends will extend sympathy, include two sons, Dr. H. W. Backus, Cooperstown and Hartwick, and Stanley S. Backus of Hartwick; three nephews, the Hon. Chester T. Backus of Morris; Porter R. Backus of Hartwick Seminary, and Charles T. Morse of Washington, D. C. The funeral services were held in the Universalist church at Morris Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the pastor, the Rev. F. G. Leonard, officiating.
