Hubert Lee Proffitt, age 74 of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012. Born November 17, 1937 in Tazewell County, Virginia he was the son of the late Henry Melvin and Ocie Belle Marie Davis Proffitt. He worked for 15 years at Davis & Proffitt Mining and 15 years at Jewell Smokeless where he retired in 1985.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice (Jean Dye) McDonald and Darlene Ball; and three brothers, Melvin Proffitt, Brady Proffitt and Chester Proffitt.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, two sons, three daughters, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren; sisters, and brother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Charlie McGlothlin and Rev. Shawn Rife officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
