Dorothy Louise LaLonde, 92, a life-long resident of Rogers City, passed away at her home on Sunday afternoon, July 8th, 2012. Dorothy was born April 1, 1920, in Rogers City to Fred and Edna (Fisher) Horn. Dorothy was a great-granddaughter of one of the original settlers of Rogers City and one of the founding fathers of St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Dorothy became a child of God through the Sacrament of Baptism on April 1, 1920, by the Rev Ernest Ross, and confirmed in April 10, 1933, by the Rev Louis A Linn, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rogers City, Michigan. She was a life-long member of St John's and faithfully supported both the church and the school with her time, talents, and gifts.

Dorothy married John Louis Thompson in Flint on December 26, 1940. Although the marriage was not to last, they were blessed with a son, John Louis (Jack) Thompson Jr.

On October 25, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage with Robert Lewis LaLonde. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Michael LaLonde. Together Dorothy and Bob owned in operated the Sir-Vis Dry Cleaners on Third street until Bob's death in 1967. Dorothy continued to manage and operated the Sir-Vis Dry Cleaners for 20 more years until her retirement in 1987.

Dorothy had a great love and devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but with confidence in their Redeemer and in the Resurrection, they know that one day they will be reunited with her in heaven.

…her beloved and faithful daughter-in-law, Ada Thompson of Rogers City;
…her brother Charles (Nancy) Horn of Rogers City;
…her sister, Corinne (Ivan) Schaedig of Alpena;
…her grandchildren:

……Eric (Shannon) Thompson of St. Johns,
……Kerry (George) Babion of Frankfort,
……Paul (Leigh) LaLonde of Grandville, and
……Rob LaLonde of Grand Rapids;
…her great-grandchildren:
……Jessica and Tyler Thompson of Rogers City,
……Ethan and Jordyn Thompson of St. John,
……Elle Robinson of Frankfort, and
……Aaron and Ethan LaLonde of Grandville;
…special niece, Ruth Brege of Rogers City; and
…many other nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death and is now reunited with them in heaven by:
…her husband, Robert LaLonde in 1967;
…her son, Jack Thompson in 1999;
…her parents, Fred (1954) and Edna (1977) Horn;
…her brother, Robert Horn, who died in infancy in 1929;
…her brother, Paul Horn, who perished with the sinking of the "Carl D. Bradley" in November 1958;
…her sister and brother-in-law, Lois (1998) and Norman (2011) Haselhuhn; and
…her first husband, John Thompson in 2008.

Visitation for family and friends was held at the Beck Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation resumed at St John Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 10:00 through the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev John Schreiber, officiating.

Mrs. LaLonde's mortal remains were laid to rest next to those of her husband, Bob, in Memorial Park Cemetery,there to await the great day of Resurrection.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to St John Lutheran School or Church in memory of Dorothy LaLonde.
