Charles "Chuck" Frederick Horn, 82, of Rogers City passed away peacefully at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, surrounded by his beloved family. Chuck was born March 31, 1931 in Rogers City to Fred and Edna Horn, the fourth of six siblings born before 1937. His great-grandfather, Friedrich Christian Johann Horn, and grandfather, Charles Frederick Horn, and families are among the earliest of settlers of Rogers City and founders of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Nineteen days late, on April 19, 1931, he became a child of God through the Sacrament of Baptism at St. John Lutheran Church by the Rev. Louis A Linn. Chuck received his elementary education at St, John Lutheran School and made his Confirmation vows on Palm Sunday March 25, 1945. As his parents and grandparents, he remained a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. His faith served him well during the numerous hardships of life and greatly aided him at his time of passing.

Chuck attended Rogers City High School and graduated from RCHS in 1949.

After graduation, Chuck served briefly in the United States Navy before returning to Rogers City to begin sailing with the Bradley Transportation and the United States Steel Great Lakes Fleet. He started in the position of "Oiler"; rose through the years in positions and retired on December 29, 1987 as Chief Engineer aboard the Calcite II.

On July 11, 1953 he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Jean Christian of Cheboygan at St Mary Roman Catholic Church in Cheboygan and they made their home and raised their family in Rogers City.

Chuck was a loving husband and father. He loved visits from his family and to reminisce about old times. He loved the sailing life and was always appreciative of it. He was an avid member of the Presque Isle County Sportsmen's Club where he enjoyed target and skeet shooting and telling stories.

He will be remembered most by his family for his loving ways and how he loved life itself, for his wit and sense of humor, for his love of country, for his strong work effort, and most of all the time he spent with us, his family. We each look forward to the day when we will see each other again.
