Edgar "Poppie" Edwards, 90, of Johnson City, passed away June 30, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a Carter County native who lived all of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late Milton Markwood and Hannah Lee Hughes Edwards.

Mr. Edwards was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and the recipient of two Bronze Stars for valor.

He retired from employment with ETSU after twenty-two years of service.

Mr. Edwards was of the Baptist faith.

In the 1950's and 60's, he played bass in the Crossroad Boys bluegrass band.

Mr. Edwards was a former member of the Carter County Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by six sisters: Lora Irene Stanbery, Ruth O'Brien, Mae Snodgrass, Barbara Cable, Gloria Houston, and Lois Sells.

Survivors include: his wife, Martha Broyles Edwards, of the home; son, Eddie R. Edwards, and his wife, Robin, of Piney Flats; daughter, Kay Jones, and her husband, Dr. David Jones, of Johnson City; grandchildren, Zachary Edwards, of Knoxville, Jacob Edwards, of Knoxville, Paul Douglas Sparks, and his wife, Tracy, of Johnson City, Becky Keplinger, and her husband, Glen, of Johnson City, Kelly Mullins Cooper, of Jonesborough, Tim Mullins, of Jonesborough, Jason Jones, and his wife, Courtney, of Florida, Josh Jones, of Florida, and Ben Jones, and his wife, Amy, of Johnson City; six great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Bill Sells, of Johnson City, and Jack Cable, of Johnson City, and several nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, John and Pam Barrett.

The family of Edgar "Poppie" Edwards will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, July 2, 2012 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM Monday. Rev. Grant L. Jones will officiate.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for those services.
