George went to war on May 22, 1862. He was with General Lee at Appomattox when he surrended. George and his brother, William, walked all the way home to Alabama, they were 2 of very few survivors from the area. George was a member of Company C, 2nd Battalion, Hilliard's Legion, Alabama Volunteers.
