Mrs. Gladys M. Bergel, age 79, formerly of Whispering Pines Apartment, Whitelaw, died Wednesday, evening, December 29, 1993, at North Ridge Care Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Rev. Richard H. Heymen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
The former Gladys Staudinger was born March 27, 1914, in the Town of Cato, daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Riederer Staudinger. On October 10, 1934, she was married to Adolph J. Bergel at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The couple farmed in the Town of Franklin for many years and then operated Bergel's Bar in Whitelaw for 19 years. Mr. Bergel preceded her in death on September 25, 1980. Gladys was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Janet Bergel, Whitelaw, Gary and Sue Bergel, Purcellville, Va.; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Elleen Staudinger, Jr., Reedsville, Paul and Corrine Staudinger, Reedsville; three sisters and four brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Howard Birkholz, Collins, Ruth and Jim Stradal, Sr., Branch, Joyce and John Rohde, Whitelaw, Edgar Glaeser Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by an infant son, an infant daughter, one brother, Leonard, one sister, Bernice.
Friends may call at the Saur Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Father Heymen will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m.
