A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Verna Paille died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 10:15 p.m. She was 102 and a native of West Baton Rouge Parish. Visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly, from 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Eric Gyan. Interment in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery. Survived by two sons, Felix "Jack" Paille and wife Margaret Pousson Paille, Baton Rouge, and Edward Bird Paille and wife Erline Peterson Paille, Orinda, Calif.; a daughter, Verna Paille Theriot and husband James Marvin Theriot, Baton Rouge; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Felix D. Paille; parents, Edward A. Bird Sr. and Leah Bernard Bird; two sisters, Lou Bird Landry and Mary Leah Bird; and two brothers, Edward A. Bird Jr. and William Leonard Bird. She was a 1919 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, in a class of three. Special thanks is extended to her daughter-in-law, Margaret Paille, and son-in-law, James Theriot, for their understanding and support that enabled us to keep her at home all these years.
