He was born May 9, 1910, to Jurgen H. and Hanna Block Garrelts northeast of Gothenburg.
Earl married Helen Jeannette Mosley on Sept. 5, 1937, at Lexington. This past September they celebrated 68 beautiful years of marriage together. He ranched north of Brady for 30 years from 1943 to 1973. They moved to Fort Collins, Colo., and lived there 23 years until 1996, before mov-ing back to Brady. While living in Fort Collins they wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz. They loved spending time with their family and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Garrelts of Gothenburg; two sons, Larry (Cheryl) Garrelts of Layton, Utah, and Blaine (Patricia) Garrelts of Brady; six grandchildren, Betty Jean, Lynda, Karen, Richard, Deanna and Sheri; five step-grandchildren, Debbie, Kevin, Barbara, Dwain, Deborah; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
His parents and a brother, Ervin, preceded him in death.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with the Rev. Ken Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
