The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Witt Samuel Fore (ASN: 1310827), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, A.E.F., near Brancourt, France, 8 October 1918. Disregarding personal safety, Sergeant Fore ran forward through heavy machine-gun and shell fire to a shell hole where a wounded soldier lay mortally wounded and carried his comrade to shelter.
