All month we have been waiting for Harold to come pick up Helen in his 1934 Roadster that he courted her in. It's been painful for her since her tumble onto the carpet the night of June 8, 2012.

Helen was 13 when she moved to Ogden and first saw Harold Crane. She married him at age 20. Helen is the daughter of Albert Smith and Arminta Willie.

A born writer, Helen majored in English at Weber College and Utah State, giving dramatic readings, winning first place prizes for her essays, and later becoming an editor. Helen and Harold loved to travel. They served in the LDS Church and were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Harold died in 1986.

Helen and Harold have three children: Jeffrey (Marilynn) Crane, Pamela (Dee) Alvord, and Shauna Harman-Jones. They have eight grandsons. Their only granddaughters, Amy and Elizabeth both died young as did baby grandson Steven and baby great-grandson Jack. They also have eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is survived by two brothers, Bert (Kathy) and Paul Smith, and two sisters, June Jackson and Georgia (Dave) Buss.

Helen's parents, sisters Illa Taggart and Ruth Smith and sisters-in-law Amelia and Joan Smith are with her now.

She was a well-loved Auntie who never forgot a birthday. She was so optimistic. Her mantra was "Things always work out." And they did. Harold came for her.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th St.. Friends may visit family on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St.
