Alvin was the son of Freeland Rosebrook and Mary Kilby. He was a carpenter.

On Feb 13, 1856 in NH, probably Lancaster, he married Diantha Fisk, daughter of Frederick and Sarah C Fisk. They lived in Brighton, VT. Diantha died February 25, 1865, when Alvin was in an 1865 MA census as widowed.

On Dec 9, 1868 in Gouldsboro, ME he married Mary E. (Young) Rosebrook, daughter of Clement and Elizabeth Young. She was the widow of Henry Cobb Rosebrook, son of Eleazer Rosebrook and Harriet Guptill, who died of disease at Baton Rouge, LA in 1863 in the Civil War. Mary died on Oct 6, 1869 in Gouldsboro, ME from Typhoid Fever.

On Sept 17, 1872 in Watertown, MA Alvin married Catherine S. Hoar, daughter of Farvel Hoar and Maria Stone. It was her first marriage and his third. In July 1876 they had a son, Edwin, who was stillborn. They made their home in Watertown, MA. until Cate died Mar 30, 1896 of cancer. She was buried in Watertown.

Alvin had retired and was living back at Island Pond, VT at the time of his death in 1909 but was brought back to Watertown to be buried with Catherine.
