A native of Wayne County that is now part of Brantley County, he was a son of the late David Cann Hickox and Dora Satilla Knox Hickox, and was born and reared on a farm near Hickox.
He had been engaged in road construction while in the CCCamp. He had farmed and worked in turpentine. He was a member and deacon of Little Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Lucille Knox Hickox of Nahunta; two daughters, Myrtis Haney (husband David) and Linda Bishop (husband Ken), both of Nahunta; four sons, Joseph "Buddy" Hickox (wife Nell), David Hickox (wife Sue), Ronald Hickox (wife Susan), and Glynn Hickox (wife Cheryl), all of Nahunta; three sisters, Bertie Strickland and Velma Chilson, both of Waverly, and Marie Bryant of Eastman; one brother, Virgil Hickox (wife Roselyn) of Brunswick; 13 grandchildren, Danette Wainright, Martha Ann Vaughn, Lisa Trowell, Teresa Highsmith, Michael Haney, Amanda Moody, Kenya Clark, Keith Bishop, Landon Hickox, Randall Hickox, Tammy Lewis, Billy Hickox and Kim Hickox; and 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at Little Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Alvin Johnson and Elder Tommy Wasdin officiating.
Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery near Hickox.
Music was by Sacred Harp Singers.
Pallbearers were Randall Hickox, Landon Hickox, Billy Hickox, Michael Haney, Keith Bishop, Dustin Morrison, Vince Thrift, and Derek Thrift.
