"Death of Caleb Crone - Mr. Caleb Crone, formerly well known here as Sergeant of our Police before the war, and a most efficient officer, died a few days since at or near Waynesboro'. His remains were brought to this city Saturday afternoon by the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad, and were met at the depot by Chief of Police Major John Poe, and a number of the police force and others. His funeral took place yesterday."

Caleb Crone's 1st marriage was to Susanah Patterson in Augusta County Virginia on Feb. 21, 1837. They had one girl, Sarah A. Crone (Graves) 1837-1898. They had three sons: James M. Crone 1837-1865, John M. crone 1840-1864 and George Moore Crone 1841-1904. His 2nd marriage was to Eveline Hanger Woodward. They had two daughters: Mary S. Crone 1853-1879 and Alicinda "Alice" H. Crone (Whitlock) 1855-1926. Caleb was a butcher in Augusta County, a policeman in Richmond during the Civil War and a farmer in Augusta County after the war.
