Dr. John W Kirk and wife, Caroline, built Rose Hill Plantation House at Bluffton, S.C. (He was a local doctor and planter) The Rose Hill Plantation (a rice plantation) was inherited by Caroline from her father James Kirk. John & Caroline were members of Church of the Cross in Bluffton (originally named Kirk's Bluff for her father). 2 children: William J and Emily. Willie served in the Confederate Army. The Kirks fled from the plantation to nearby Grahamville, S.C. during the War of Northern Aggression. She died during that time. He later returned to Rose Hill, died there and was buried beside his wife in Grahamville Cemetery (near Ridgeland, S.C. between Bluffton and Beaufort). The Yankees burned the entire town of Grahamville except for The Chuch of the Holy Trinity, which still stands & on the National Registry of Historic Places.
