GERRIT HAMSTRA

Gerrit Hamstra, 76 of Clare, Died Sept. 25, 1986 in his home.

He was born on July 27, 1910 the son of Anna & Grietje (Vellema) Hamstra. He married Ellen Hoddinot on March 30, 1935 and she predeceased him on April 17, 1979 he than married Mabel Soule on Nov. 17, 1982 in Holly.

Mr. Hamstra moved to Clare from Grand Rapids fifty years ago and was an Insurance Salesman and a horse farmer. He was a member of the Clare 7th Day Adventist Church. Mr. Hamstra was a former Sheriff Posse, the Clare County Fair Board and the Clare County Planning Commission.

He is survived by his wife Mabel; 2 daughters Marian Koleczek of Hinsdale, Ill., and Rosemary Bashaw of Clare; 5 grandchildren, and 3 brothers Joe Hamstra of Calif., and Ted and John Hamstra both of Zeeland and a sister Bertha DeWindt of Zeeland. He was predeceased by a son Fred and a daughter Grace.

Funeral services for Mr. Hamstra were held Sept. 28, at 3:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral home in Clare with Pastor Robert Lawson officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.
