Mr. Jim Bollema, 66, a Skagit Valley resident, passed away at his home Saturday, January 4, 2003.

Mr. Bollema was born in Artesia, California on April 9, 1936, the son of Jacob and Ida Wiersma Bollema. He started his education there and in 1944 the family moved to Indiana where he completed his schooling at The St. John Lutheran School. The family moved back to Artesia, California in 1952. He was united in marriage to Agnes M. VanDam there on December 15, 1962. The family came to Washington in 1967 and first settled in Snohomish, Washington where they started dairy farming.

In 1981, they came to the Mount Vernon area residing south of Mount Vernon and continued in dairy farming. He was a charter member of the Cascade Christian Reformed Church of Marysville. He enjoyed going to auctions, visiting friends, traveling in the United States, and also enjoyed telling stories.

Survivors are his wife, Agnes Marie Bollema at the family home; two daughters, Marie J. Bollema and her close friend Brian Costello of Arlington and Ida Mae and her husband Bryan Ekkelkemp of Mount Vernon; two sons, Adrian R. and wife Lori Bollema of Portales, New Mexico and Jacob H. Bollema and his close friend Chris Blair of Mount Vernon; two sisters and spouses, Tillie and Pete Bruinsma of Lynden and Jenny and Daryl Sudenga of Sunnyside, Washington; a sister-in-law, Laura Mae Bollema of Palm Springs, California; five grandchildren, Racheal Bollema, Richard Bollema, Ryan Bollema, Darin Ekkelkamp and Kyle Ekkelkamp; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jacob.

A public Graveside Service will be held in the Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon at 10am, Wed, Jan 8, 2003 with Pastor Michael Kooy of the First Christian Reformed Church officiating with public Memorial Services following that day at 11am in the First Christian Reformed Church in Mount Vernon with Pastor Tim Toeset of the Cascade Christian Reformed Church of Marysville officiating.

Mr. Bollema will lie in state for viewing at the Kern Funeral Chapel in Mount Vernon from Noon-5pm, Monday, January 6th and from 9-5pm, Tuesday, January 7th. Memorials may be made to The First Christian Reformed Church, 701 W.
