Giuseppe was born and raised in Bronte, Provincia di Catania, Sicily.
Bronte is a small town, up the mountain from the large coastal city of Catania in Eastern Sicily.

His Parents:

*Serafino Gullo of Bronte.
*Nunziata Luca of Bronte.

His Paternal Grandparents:

*Gaspare Gullo
*Maria Franco

His Maternal Grandparents:

*Vincenzo Luca
*Angelina Moraci/Manace

His Siblings:

*Maria, married name Calcagno
*Felicia, married name Minio
*Gaspare
*Vincenzo
*Margherita, married name Zerbo

Giuseppe grew up in Bronte and was one of the first of his family to attend school. His generation in Sicily were the first few to start attending school. This was a big thing for poor Sicilians to learn to read and write Italian.

At the age of 17 he immigrated to the USA arriving at Ellis Island on Nov. 5, 1912.

He settled in Jamestown, NY and joined his older brother Gaspare who had come over years before.
Jamestown back then had many jobs in their factories and mills. And many Sicilian were coming over to find work and make a better life for themselves and their families. In time all of Giuseppe's family, but his sister Maria, would come to Jamestown.

Giuseppe found work in a furniture factory and worked for many years as a skilled furniture maker.

In Sept. of 1923 Giuseppe would marry Catarina Prinze in Jamestown.

And as was the Italian custom their children were named after their grandparents:

*Nancy, married name Nicastro
*Russell A.

In her later years, Giuseppe's mother Nunziata would make her home with him and his family.

The Gullo family was very close in life and in death. And most of them are buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Jamestown near their Mother Nunziata and Father Serafino. Giuseppe and his wife are buried right next to his mother and father, on the left side of them.

Riposa in Pace, Zio Joe.
