Sergeant Stanley A. Bunner died on June 30, 1965 at the age of 38, as the result of injuries sustained in a one-car accident on the Thruway one mile west of Exit 24, Albany. Witnesses reported that the Troop car, proceeding eastbound, suddenly left the super highway, traveled 200 yards along the earthen embankment of the median and crashed into the underbrush, turning over on its right side. Sergeant Bunner was ejected and found dead a short distance from his vehicle.
Sergeant Bunner served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1948 and joined the State Police in 1958 at Troop "A", Batavia. He began his assignment with Troop "T" in 1961.
