Civil War records of Illinois: Richard Pippin of 14th Illinois Cavalry, company E, Joined January 26, 1863, at Peoria, Illinois: He was age 19, a farmer, born in Franklin County, Indiana. He lived in 1863 at Tremont, Tazewell County, Illinois. He had grey eyes, dark hair and a height of 5'7". His unit served in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. He transferred to company C with Thomas Pippin, also of Tremont. He was wounded and captured August 3, 1864, near Macon, Georgia on General Stoneman's raid. He was a Prisoner of War, probably at Andersonville Prison. He survived and married March 20, 1868, in Tazewell County, Illinois to Charlotte McGinnis.
