Carolyn was always sending everyone cards for everything. Carolyn's life changed for the better when she met and married her life's partner, Walter.

Carolyn always said she wanted to go with her husband if he died first, as she did not want to be living without him. They went together as a result of a automobile accident.

Carolyn, 61 and Walter C. Penland, 83 of Horse Shoe died Tuesday, June 26th in Toccoa, GA as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Carolyn and Walter were natives of Buncombe County. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and Walter lived most of his life in Buncombe County.

A loyal friend, faithful wife, a life employee with Pardee Hospital, almost retired, who cared for her mother till her death, loved children, and always working behind the scenes, and doing something for others, even crocheting prayer shawls for those who were seriously ill. Carolyn also left behind a brother, sister in law, and their childern, also her sister and children, and brother in law.

Carolyn was a daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Wallin. She worked in housekeeping with Pardee Hospital and was a volunteer at Cradle of Forestry Pisgah Forest.

A funeral service will be held at Etowah Baptist Church. Revs. Brian Henderson and Terry Penland will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
