Gideon Newton was born June 26, 1804 in the blockhouse at Marietta, Ohio. He married Sarah (Sallie) Sutliff on March 6, 1823. He died in Windsor TWP on Newton Ridge, Morgan County, Stockport Ohio on Jan 19, 1878....One report indicated that Gideon Newton died of heart disease.
When Gideon was 8 years old (1812) his family moved from Marietta to a farm a short distance above the flourishing little village of Stockport....
It is interesting to note that 5 of Gideon and Sallie Newtons boys were in the Civil War...All 5 of them survived the war although one of them received a dishonorable discharge on his second hitch of service.
