John Henry Kingery, 84, of Roanoke County, went to be with the Lord and to join his wife, Dean, on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Johnny was born January 6, 1920 in Roanoke, Virginia, a son of the late Lonza V. Kingery and Lula Stanback Kingery. He was an active member of Penn Forest Wesleyan Church. Johnny served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was also a member of American Legion Post 248. He retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway with 35 years of service. Surviving are two devoted daughters, Carolyn Holland and husband, Steve Holland, Kathy Hall and husband, Bobby Hall, all of Roanoke County; one grandson, Keith Holland and his wife, Megan of Charlottesville; four step-grandchildren, Stacie Arellano, Shannon Hall, Spenser Hall and Shastady Zara; two brothers, Elmer Kingery and wife, Rebecca of Roanoke County, Arlie Kingery of Franklin County; his half-brother, Claude Harrison and wife, Bobbie; a half-sister, Irene Vickers and husband, Vic, all of Roanoke; one step-sister, Christine Sexton and husband, Raymond, also of Roanoke; many nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends survive. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Oakey's South Chapel with Rev. Greg Reynolds, Rev. Myron Atkinson, Rev. Dale Reynolds, and Rev. Lowell Chaney officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, with military honors by VFW Post #1264. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 989-3131.
