Mrs. Higby was born in West Mead Township Jan. 23, 1880, the daughter of Oliver W. and Minerva Hamilton Custead. On Aug. 13, 1902, she married David B. Higby. Mr. Higby, who had served as secretary-treasurer of Channellock Inc. of Meadville, died in July of 1966.
Mrs. Higby was a member of Stone United Methodist Church for over 50 yeans and was active in its WSCS and Beacon Light Class. She attended Edinboro State Normal School and was a teacher for several years. She was a former member of the Meadville Woman's Club and its garden division.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. E. (Ruth) Haver of Hyattville, Md.; one son, Jesse D. Higby of Buffalo, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. George (Netta) Fryermuthn of Fredonia; one brother, Homer Custead of Interlachen, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Waid Funeral Home in Meadville from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and attend the funeral service there at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Dr. Arthur M. Crawford, pastor of the Stone Church, officiating. Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
