Joseph Beardmore and [his bother-in-law] "Jacky" Owen were intimate personal friends of the Rev. John Wesley, the former being one of the trustees of City Road Chapel. Their family grave - "vault no. 7, with iron rails" - is near Mr. Wesley's in London. Computer records at the chapel add the follwing information: Josep. L. Beardmore - Buried Novem. 5, 1829 - aged 83. Died at Mickleham, Surrey. (Ref: Stevenson, George J., 1876, Memorials of the Wesley Family, p. 516-517.)

According to the writings of Mary Owen Beardmore (1813-1891), the Beardmore Family Vault (i.e., vault no. 7 where Joseph is buried) was located, "near the northern boundary wall of the graveyard of the City Road Chapel & within a few steps of the burial place of the Rev. John Wesley is a vault of the Owen & Beardmore family. Eight members of the family lie in this vault." These graves were moved elsewhere sometime between 1972 and 1978 during extensive renovations of the chapel. When a member of the family in 1990 made inquiries to the staff at the chapel as to where the graves had been moved, the information did not seem to be available.
