Mrs. Ludie LeGrand Wright, 99, 507 Sciple Street, died Wednesday, March 19 in Rockmart. She was born Sept. 22, 1897 in Haralson County, was a former Goodyear employee, retired Cannon Casket Company employee, a member of Fairview Baptist Church, charter member of Rockmart Brown-Wright American, member of Gold Star Mothers and member of Rockmart Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Banks Wright; parents, J.W. and Margie Hutcheson LeGrand; son Lt. John Preston Wright; two brothers, Emory LeGrand and Roscoe LeGrand; two sisters, Othie LeGrand Wyatt and Ollie LeGrand Williamson. Surviving are a son, Delbert Wright, Bremen; two daughters Mrs. Sylvia Hughes, Rockmart and Mrs. Margie Hughes, Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Clarence LeGrand, Birmingham and Ernest LeGrand, Rockmart; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Andrews and Rev. Calvin Brown officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. The following grandsons and great grandsons served as pallbearers: Keith Bedford, Johnny Wright, Rob Fairel, Andy Fairel, Eddy Elsberry, Chris Elsberry and Ken Elsberry. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, March 26, 1997)

Mrs. Wright lived another 2 years after his death, dying just six months shy of her 100th birthday. Also of interest, Mr. and Mrs. Wright's son, Lt. John Preston Wright, died in service during World War II. The Brown-Wright American Legion Post 12 in Rockmart bears his name to honor his memory.]
