McAllen – Margarita G. Salinas, 82, passed away June 23, 2012 in McAllen, Texas. She was born June 2, 1930, in Brownsville, Texas, and grew up in Rio Grande City, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Horacio Paul Guerra II and Rebeca Hinojosa Guerra, by her husband Cesar, and by her son Javier R. Salinas.

Margarita was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in Laredo, Texas and of Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. Upon marrying Cesar Salinas, she moved to Roma, Texas, where she raised her family and resided until 2006. She then moved to McAllen to be closer to her children. Margarita was a member of the Pan American Round Table, Roma/Rio Grande City, for many years and served as director early on in her time with the organization. She later joined the McAllen Table and thoroughly enjoyed the company of her new friends at luncheons and with neighboring Tables throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Margarita also journeyed on various occasions to conferences of the Pan American Round Table Alliance across the Americas. Margarita's love of travel allowed her to experience cultures in many countries, including England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco, the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, Perú, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Her travels across the United States took her to Hawaii, Alaska, Boston and the New England area, Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, Las Vegas, Pasadena, and most recently, to the Grand Canyon. Margarita was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She especially loved to crochet and needlepoint gifts for her children and grandchildren.

Margarita G. Salinas was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and a woman of great faith. She was especially thankful for the education and pastoral care she received from the Sisters of Mercy and the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. She will be missed greatly by all of her family, and by the many friends she made throughout her life.

Margarita is survived by her children Felipe C. (Catherine) Salinas of McAllen, Jose A. Salinas of San Antonio, Luis E. (Jessica) Salinas of Austin, daughter-in-law Clara B. Salinas of Roma, widow of Javier R. Salinas, Roberto A. (Dora) Salinas of Roma, Daniel F. (Deborah) Salinas of Austin, Marta S. (Michael) Hovar of McAllen, and Mercedes S. (Pilar) Espinosa of McAllen. She was also very proud of her 15 grandchildren, whose education she encouraged and valued: Jasmín A. Salinas, Karina A. (Wesley) Barlow, Daniel A. Salinas, Benjamín J. Salinas, Gerard F. Salinas, David J. Hovar, Victoria S. (Juan G.) Muñiz, Rebecca T. Salinas, Alexander M. Salinas, Jacqueline A. Salinas, Hannah E. Salinas, Carlos A. Salinas, Eliana I. Salinas, Lucas D. Espinosa, and Sarah E. Espinosa; and two great-grand children, Jonathan A. Barlow, and Sofía A. Muñiz.
