Kenneth started to school in Edgar County, Illinois, at the age of five years. He also lived in Clark County and attended schools there. The last one was the Bluegrass School near Martinsville, Illinois. While living in Clark County, he attended the Five Points Christian Church where he accepted Christ and was baptized in the fall of 1923.

Kenneth and Mildred were married on April 2, 1927, after a two year courtship. Elder Ira Murphy performed the ceremony at his home. They started housekeeping in a two-room house in Edgar County on a farm near Redmon, farming 320 acres with his father, Everitt. On March 21, 1928, their first son, Max Eugene, was born. Almost four years later, on January 14, 1932, their second son, Robert Dean, was born.

In 1932, they moved a couple miles nearer Kansas on a farm which Kenneth farmed for two years. They then moved near Grandview, first farming the Harry Gill farm for three years then to the Wilbur Hickman farm about three miles farther down the road. They stayed there for five years, farming the place and milking cows. In 1941, they purchased 160 acres near Elbridge where they lived for over 42 years. Those were years of hard work. Besides farming, they raised more livestock--cows, hogs, and chickens. For a number of years, they ran a dairy operation with a pipeline milker and all modern equipment. They often milked as many as forty cows. In 1965, they sold all the dairy herd and the equipment. They continued farming, keeping some stock cattle and the laying hens until 1973. Then, they rented the farm ground, but continued with the stock cattle and laying hens until 1981. They then sold the hens and just cared for the stock cows and calves until selling them in the fall of 1983.

After moving to the farm near Elbridge, they transferred their church membership from the Five Points Church to the Nevins Christian Church where they were active members. Kenneth served as Elder and assistant teacher, and Mildred taught a high school class. Their children hosted their golden wedding anniversary at the church with an open house on April 2, 1977.
