MARTINSVILLE, Ill. - Darrel Wilhoit, 77, of Martinsville died at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, in his residence. He was a retired retail salesman. He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Auburn Township in Clark County to Everett Wilhoit and Jennie Bishop Wilhoit. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lou Creson Wilhoit, whom he married Nov. 17, 1951; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Lee and Debbie Wilhoit of Chesterfield, Mo., Scott Wayne and Marlene Wilhoit of Martinsville and Stanley Roy and Becky Wilhoit of Atlanta, Ill.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Elizabeth and Edwin Roberts of Bethalto, Sarah Jane and Doug Michael of Bloomington and Shari Ann and Larry Spittler of Iraan, Texas; two brothers, Verlin Pierce Wilhoit of Sarasota, Fla., and Cass Wilhoit of Mexico, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Jay Wilhoit and his wife Sarah, Jacob Wilhoit, Jordan Wilhoit, Joy Roberson and her husband Doug, Jay Roberts and his fiancŽ Suzy, Karla Wilhoit, Wesley Wilhoit, Kyle Wilhoit, Andrea Michael, Nathan Michael, Joshua Michael, Mandi Spittler and Trey Spittler; and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Wilhoit. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. He was a veteran, serving in the Navy Air during World War II, and was a member of Five Points Christian Church in rural Martinsville. Services are 10 a.m. Monday in Greenwell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Small officiating. Burial is in Ridgelawn Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Martinsville American Legion Post 515. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. today.
