John Evan went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 24th 2012. He was 97 years old.

He was born on November 6, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Mike and Mary Evan and had three brothers - Michael, Daniel, and Andrew - and three sisters - Margaret, Mildred, and Ruth.

John was a decorated veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

As a lifelong Christian, John served as a deacon, usher, and trustee in the Baptist church.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and loved animals and children as much as they all loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son Gary and daughter-in-law Ok Kyu; his daughter Joanne Evan Pankonin and son-in-law David; and his daughter Judith Evan Gabriel and son-in-law Daniel. John had nine grandchildren- Linda Evan Autrey & Timothy Evan; Bryan, Dan, Mike, and Tim Pankonin & Amy Pankonin Dykstra; and Alex & Evan Gabriel. He also had 9 great grandchildren- Alyssa & Bridget Autrey, Nathaniel & Joshua Evan, Tyler & Brett Pankonin, Jenna Pankonin, and Samantha & Allison Pankonin.

Our family and all who knew John will always remember him as a loving and gentle husband and father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his God and his country.

A viewing is scheduled Thursday, June 28th, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Peel & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Peel & Sons Funeral Home with the interment following at Central Texas Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen at 2:00 p.m. We invite all who knew and loved John Evan to come celebrate his extraordinary life with us.
