Donald Azbell, 87, of 151 N. Bernadotte died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Born March 12, 1917, in Ipava to Edward and Zena M. Nelson Azbell, he married Laura May Ellison on June 21, 1952, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Scott of Quincy; and two brothers, Wayne of Ipava and Kenneth (and Jane) of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and two half brothers.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in Germany and Japan in the 797th Ordnance L M 97th Division, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Ipava American Legion Post 17 for more than 50 years.

A rural mail carrier for more than 40 years, he retired in March 1984. He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association and a former president of the Fulton County Rural Mail Carriers Association.

He was a member and elder of Ipava Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery.
