Stonewall J. Essman, 79, Waldron, Ark., died Wednesday in a Topeka hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Essman had become ill while visiting relatives in Topeka.

Born April 22, 1883, in Scott County, Ark., he lived most of his life in Waldron, Ark. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emaline Essman, of the home; seven sons, Russell, 2610 E. 4th, Virgil, Grantville, Dee, Waldron, Ark., Herschell, Bakersfield, Calif., Elmer, Grantville, Almer, Route 6, and Lodelle, 1105 Madison; three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Barnett, Lawrence, Mrs. Ella Tarwater, 310 Burgess, and Mrs. Eva Epperson, 2510 Massachusetts; 51 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Clay Essman, Waldron, Ark., Joe Essman, Mount Ida, Ark., and George Essman, Upland, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Alfa Nix, Waldron, Ark.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Davidson-Eslinger-Duff Funeral Home with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
