Buckland, July 16 - Miss Betty J. Warfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Howard Warfield of this town, was married Saturday to Pvt Gerald E Purinton, son of Mr and Mrs Mark L Purinton, also of this town. The wedding ceremony was performed in the home of the bride's parents by Rev. George A Merrill of Mary Lyon Church. The bridegroom is stationed at Ft Dix, N.J. BUCKLAND -- Betty J. (Warfield) Purinton, 74, of 4 Clesson Brook Road died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield.
She was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., July 19, 1931, the daughter of Howard L. and Elsie Mae (Ayers) Warfield. She was a 1949 graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls and a graduate of the former Northampton Commercial College.
She was married to Gerald "Josh" Purinton on July 14, 1951. He died July 3, 2004.
Prior to retirement in 1996, she was postmaster of the Buckland Post Office. During the 1950s, she was a teller at the former Shelburne Falls National Bank. She was secretary/clerk of G.E. Purinton Inc., a business founded by her husband in 1961 until his retirement in 2002.
Purinton was a member of Mary Lyon Church and a member of its Ladies Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ashfield. She was a past secretary for the Buckland Fire District.
Survivors include her son, her daughter, three grandchildren, one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Mary Lyon Church. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. Calling hours at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, are this evening from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested donations be made to either Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St. or to Buckley HealthCare Residents Council Fund, 95 Laurel St., both in Greenfield, MA 01301.
