Robert Joseph Abbott, 71, of Newark, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital with his family by his side. Family and friends may call Tuesday (Oct. 21) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A Funeral Service will follow calling at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery with full military honors. In memory of Mr. Abbott please consider donations to Wellspring Church, 7 Pearl St., Phelps, 14532. Mr. Abbott was born the son of the late Stanley and Evelyn Frei Abbott on January 29, 1937 in Newark, NY. He retired from Anaconp Inc. as a computer technician in Rochester in 2002. Mr. Abbott was a member of the Palmyra American War Dads and the Palmyra VFW. The funeral home proudly flies the Army Flag in honor of his service to our country from 1956 to 1958. Mr. Abbott will be remembered by his wife Ruth Sundloss Abbott; daughters Kathleen (Albert) Montgomery of MO. and Penny (Jeffrey) Burgess of Lyons; step-daughter Theresa (Mike) Sovie of Sodus; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother Stanley Abbott of TX and John Abbott CT; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Abbott was predeceased by his first wife Helen Ward Abbott in 1994; step-sons George Smith and Joseph Avondale.
