Sarah Lacy Miller, 96, died June 14, 2012, at Sunnyside Retirement Community where she had been a resident.

Mrs. Miller was born May 12, 1916, in Franklin, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. C. Read and Sallie Wilson Lacy.

She graduated from Mt. Clinton High School in 1934 and received a BA from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton in 1938. She taught school for two years and then attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. She served as a missionary in Brazil from 1946-1951. On Oct. 12, 1951, she married Gilbert E. Miller, who survives. They had three children.

In 1972, she participated in a one month Travel Study Seminar to Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador sponsored by the Presbyterian Board of World Missions. She served on numerous committees and positions in the Presbyterian Church and Church Women United over the years.

Mrs. Miller was a member and elder of the Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school and Circle Bible Study. She was a Tupperware dealer for many years. She was recognized by Mary Baldwin College with the Emily Smith Medallion for Distinguished Service Award in 1978.

Surviving are her husband, Gilbert Miller, and her sons, Robin Read Miller and wife, Theresa, Manassas Va., and Allen Ross Miller and wife, Barbara, Fredericksburg Va.; six grandchildren, Sara Miller, Ian Miller, Michael Miller, Erin Miller, Daniel Miller and wife, Rebecca, and Ryan Miller and one great-grandchild, Leigha Miller.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sallie Delphia Miller, who died July 9, 2001, and by her three brothers, Clarence Read Lacy, Jr., Dr. Osborne Wilson Lacy and Dr Mathew Lyle Lacy.

Burial will be private at Cooks Creek New Cemetery.

The Rev. George Evans will conduct a memorial service at Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church at 4:30 on June 30, after which the family will receive friends.
