Junior Russell Halverson, the son of Benny A. and Rena (Hanson) Halverson, was born in Linn Grove, Iowa on March 15, 1923. He received his education at Sioux Rapids and was a member of the Class of 1943. Junior proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II from February 26, 1944 until his honorable discharge on October 27, 1945.
On May 23, 1948, Junior was united in marriage to Barbara Wade at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Junior and Barbara were blessed with three children: Gary, Dennis, and Debra. They were engaged in farming for 40 years before moving into the town of Sioux Rapids on October 27, 1988. Junior also was a seed corn salesman for over 50 years and had represented the companies of PAG, Cargil, Asgrow, and Mircrogen.
Junior was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church and was very dedicated in service to his church. He had been a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, served on the Church Council, and was the head usher. Junior was also involved in his community by serving as a 4-H leader, being a township trustee for 20 years, a member of the Graeber-Rowe American Legion, serving on the swimming pool board, and he was a member of the Great Lakes Antique Car Club. Junior was associated with the Thresherman's Bee in Albert City for many years.
Special interests of Junior's included: gardening, fishing, and woodworking. You could also find Junior and his grandchildren participating in parades throughout northwest Iowa. He loved his family very much and was proud of each one. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Junior's life is celebrated and honored by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, his children: Gary (Kathie) Halverson of Spencer, Iowa, Dennis (Roxanne) Halverson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Debra (Kurt) Geisinger of Linn Grove, Iowa; his grandchildren: Heath Halverson, Hunter (Angie) Halverson, Courtney (Doug) Carmichael-Schwartz, Brent (Ellie) Carmichael, Jason (Tiffany) Halverson, Jeffrey Halverson, Joshua (Danielle) Halverson, Elijah Geisinger, Todd Geisinger, and Jonathon (Beth) Geisinger; nine great grandchildren; brother, Norman (Jean) Halverson of Spencer, Iowa; sister, Helen Andersen of Spencer, Iowa; sister-in-law, Erma Halverson of Britt, Iowa; brother-in-law, Oscar Sundblad of Spencer, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other extended family and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nickolas; five brothers: Donald, Honroe, Virgil, Bendix, Emmet; and sister, Nellie Sunblad.
