Catholic Saint. David Uribe Velasco, a venerated figure in the Roman Catholic Church, lived during the tumultuous era of the Cristero War, ultimately becoming a martyr due to his steadfast dedication to his faith in the face of severe persecution. Born in Buenavista de Cuellar, Guerrero, David was the seventh child in a large family grappling with financial hardship. His academic journey began at the Chilapa Seminary in 1903 at 14, where he displayed academic abilities. Over the years, he ascended in the Church hierarchy, being ordained on March 2, 1913, after serving as a sub-deacon and deacon. David undertook various pastoral roles, including serving as a parish priest in Buenavista de Cuéllar and as a secretary to Bishop Antonio Hernández Rodríguez of Tabasco. Despite facing adversity, such as surviving a shipwreck in 1914 during a time of widespread anti-religious violence, he remained committed to his duties. His unyielding dedication to his faith led to his arrest on April 7, 1927, in Cuernavaca, after refusing to comply with the government's orders. Despite opportunities for freedom in exchange for renouncing his beliefs, Saint David remained resolute. Tragically, he was martyred on April 12, 1927, near San Jose Vidal, shot in the back of the head, standing firm in his convictions until the end. He was beatified on November 22, 1992, and canonized on May 21, 2000, by Pope John Paul II.
