Isaac Jr. was the son of Isaac Dawson Sr. (1799) and Sarah H. Gamel.
He was married to Nancy J. Oiler May 24, 1843 in Rock Island Co., Illinois. They moved to Lee Co. Iowa (1850 Federal Census)
Per her son, Melvin's pension record, Nancy had died around 1861, probably in Henry Co., MO. (1860 Federal Census)
He never remarried. (SEE NOTES BELOW)
Next, Isaac was found living as a farmhand, with a Richardson family in 1880 Boone Co., Iowa

In 1900 Isaac was living with his brother, Henry Jackson Dawson in the Indian Territory, Cherokee Nation, (now Nowata Co., OK)
There is no further record of Isaac after the 1900 census, and it is not hard to believe that he was buried in this same cemetery with his brother.
Should a time come that this memorial needs to be moved, I will do so, upon proof that he is buried elsewhere. It is doubtful that he is buried elsewhere, since money was scarce during those times. He probably has an unmarked grave.
I feel that Isaac should be remembered along with his other family members, so I creatd this memorial for him.

CREDIT MUST BE GIVEN WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!

I MUST give credit to Jene B. and Wanda T. who wrote a very well researched book on this family. Without her and her sources, we might not have the early records that are out there today. Claude Hanson and others also contributed to the book, as well as corresponding with me.
The book gives many sources and documents, and PROOF of much of what is there. I do not know if it will ever be reprinted, as it was self-published in 2004. There was well over 600 pages of GOOD information there. I suspect that much of their work has ended up on the internet

PROOF?
Hi Nancy - I just read your info on Isaac Dawson Jr and one statement stood out to me, that he never remarried. He actually did remarry - 16 Mar 1865 he married Jane Knipe Kelley, my 3rd g.grandmother. Her husband Thomas "Farmer" Kelley died Apr 1863 as a Union soldier in MO, leaving her in Boone Co, IA with 9 children. She married Isaac 16 Mar 1865, had daughter Martha Dawson January 1866 in Boone, IA, and by 1870 had divorced him and was living with her children including Martha in the Boone Co Census.
By 1880 she had moved with three of her sons to Phillips Co KS, where she married John Hill who was 23 yrs her senior. She is buried with him and two of her sons (Henry Niles Kelly & Henry Clay Kelly) in Mound Cemetery, Stuttgart, Phillips Co KS - I've been to their graves - if ever the term middle of nowhere applied, it's to that country cem. Anyway, if Isaac was part of your family, I wanted you to know "The rest of the story" - have a wonderful day. Diana Kading, Iowa
