A native of Vincennes, Ind., he moved to Beaufort from Stuart.
Before retirement, he was an engineer for IBM, Boca Raton.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stuart.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Martin County South.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Heitz in 1992.
Survivors include a son, John Gregory Heitz of Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Cherilyn Heitz of Palm City, and Lucinda Shaw of Beaufort, S.C.; a sister, Geogie Bowen of Campbell, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Fernhill Memorial Gardens, Stuart.
