Obituary from the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth, Livingston, Illinois

ARCHIBALD MCMULLEN
JULY 27, 1922
Archibald McMullen, one of Chatsworth township's pioneers, died at his home in Forrest Monday (July 24) afternoon after suffering many months with cancer. Funeral services were held in Forrest this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church. Burial will be in Forrest cemetery beside his wife.

Archibald McMullen was born in Van Klett, Canada in 1835. He was the son of Archibald and Jane (Boyd) McMullen. He resided in Canada until nineteen years of age, when he crossed over the line to find a future home in the United States. Journeying west, he first stopped at Ottawa, Ill. where he secured employment first as a farm hand and then in rafting for three months on the Mississippi River. He subsequently rented land and farmed on his own account for six years. In 1868 he came to Livingston county and first rented land near the village of Forrest where he remained until 1870, when he settled in Chatsworth township on a farm which was raw prairie when he took possession of it, not a plowshare ever having been sunk in it, and left it one of the best improved farms in the county. In 1901 the family moved to the village of Forrest.

In the month of March 1866, he was united in marriage to Louisa Harmon, who was born in France, Nov. 7, 1846. To this union were born ten children and after the death of an infant daughter, Elizabeth, there was no break in the family circle for forty-five years. In November 1917, his wife preceded him and eight days later a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Barber.
The living children are George, Mrs. Elia Bullard, John, Mrs. Addie Myers, Mrs. Louise Dorsey, Josephine, Mrs. Estelle Rudd, Mrs. Vera Williamson.
There are 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
