Georgia Evelyn Barber, of Highlands, passed away on July 31, 2014 at the age of 91. Evelyn was born on April 21, 1923, in Montgomery County, Texas to George and LaVada Golden. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1940 and later attended Lee College, graduating from the School of Vocational Nursing in 1964. Many Baytown residents will remember her as an office nurse for Dr. Louis B. Hughes. Her career spanned over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Bruce Barber and siblings, Jack Golden and Leona Reed. She is survived by daughter, Judy Taylor and husband, Edward; grandchildren, Shanna Downing and husband, Bobby, Sharon Taylor, Leah Henderson and husband, Chris and great-grandchildren, Ryan Downing, Brooke Downing, Corbitt Henderson and Wyatt Henderson. These children she held close to her heart- Jessica Haynie, Kaitlyn, Grace and John Robinson, Ravo Scott and Alex Scott. She is also survived by siblings, Margie Neal and Ruth Allen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. James Coots will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Downing, Chris Henderson, Mike Robinson, Wade Davis, Ryan Downing and Bob Downing.
