FRANK CONKLING DIES AT 91 AT HOME IN W.C
Frank Conkling, 91, widely known Webster City resident died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home 715 First Street. Cause of his death was a heart attack.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. M. V. Chastain officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Francis Asbury Conkling, son of Richard and Julia Conkling was born Oct 11, 1861 at Trenton, Mo. He was reared and educated at Trenton and moved to California when he was 17, locating at Merced. He was united in marriage there, Sept. 8, 1882, to Miss Sarah Segar.
The couple lived in California for a few years, then moved to Oklahoma from where they later moved to Webster City. With the exception of eight years spent in Omaha. Mr. Conkling had lived here ever since.
Mr. Conking was a veteran plasterer and had worked on construction of almost all the church buildings in Webster City, banks, the county hospital and Hotel Warden at Fort Dodge. He was charter member of the pasterers union.
He is survived by one daughter and one son. Mrs. Kathryn Kiesecker and Francis Conkling, both of Webster City; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchidren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Two brothers also survive; Bert Conkling of Hemet, Calif. and Homer Conkling of Amarillo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, by one daughter, Mrs. Julia Bige; by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
He was baptized in the Christian faith and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Conkling was very active dispite his advanced age and last June was honored by Webster City during Greater Webster City week, being selected as Mr. Grandpa Webster City because of his long residence in this community.
A very conscientious worker in everything he did, he had made many close friends during his long life in Webster City.
