He met his sweetheart Joy Marie in high school. They became acquainted through music, from chorus classes to performing in plays, operettas and music competitions. They spent a lot time together as she was his accompanist while he sang in a barbershop quartet.
He married Joy Marie Davis in the Salt Lake LDS Temple September 2, 1955. They enjoyed 57 years together.
Phill was a man of large stature, with a calm and gentle demeanor. He was always happy and had a positive attitude about everything. He demonstrated a strong work ethic all of his life, with a high level of integrity and concern for his fellow men.
He loved camping, trail riding and other family activities. He was very devoted to his family, and his greatest joy was his three children and grandchildren.
Phill worked as an accountant and auditor and retired from the Utah Tax Commission in 1999.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served many years in several different church positions.
Phill is survived by his three children, Christine (Gordon) Flanders, Deon Jones, and David Evan Jones, his siblings Nathan D. Jones, Gary G. Jones, Clairene Warner, and Julie A. Jones. He has ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Joy Marie and his parents and one great-grandchild.
Services in his honor will be held at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah (110 S. Main St.) on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm. A viewing will be held from 12-1:00 pm prior to the services. Internment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.
