Mr.David Tooke,well-known throughout southwest Texas and especially,in this immediate section,died in this city last Monday afternoon at 1:30,after a lingering and painful illness of several weeks' duration,of general debility,aged about 73 years.At one time deceased was one of the wealthiest men in the state,but near the close of the late civil war he met with reverses and lost almost his entire fortune."Uncle Dave," as he was familiarly and reverently called,was a gentleman of kindly disposition,courteous to all,possessing many friends wherever known,and his death is deeply regretted by all.His remains were committed to mother earth Tuesday afternoon,in the presence of a number of sorrowing relatives and friends."Requiescat in pace."
