JoElaine Heaven, 66, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at her home.
JoElaine was born on February 9, 1946 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Isaac and Olga (Davis) Heaven. She grew up in Coffeyville where she graduated high school and attended Coffeyville Community College. She furthered her education by receiving her Bachelors Degree from Washburn, Masters in Social Work and KU and her Law Degree at Washburn. She worked for Judge Parks at the Kansas Appeals Court; then opened a private practice Law Firm with a fellow attorney in Topeka, Kansas. JoElaine returned to Coffeyville in 1990 where she operated as an independent attorney.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeyville.She enjoyed reading, working in her church and assisting her church family and community friends. She will be remembered for her kindness of helping others.
Surviving to honor her memory are her daughter, Tonya Heaven; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jason, Edward, LaTavia, Gregory; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Glen Heaven of Atlanta, Georgia, Isaac "Tony" Heaven of Coffeyville, Kansas, Ashley Dean Heaven and wife, Manami of Japan; sisters: Rachel Norwood and husband, Gerald, of Wichita, Kansas, Edith Thomas and husband, Reverend Leonard Thomas, Sr. of Peoria, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Heaven.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Leonard Thomas Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register.
