Andrew Lester "Bill" Barker, 81, of 1013 Robertson Ridge Road, Axton, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Axton, he was born Oct. 28, 1923, to Posey Lester Barker and Minnie Barker Barker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Hairfield, Blanche Stultz, Fleet Lovell and Magdalene Gardner; and two brothers, James Barker and Calvin Barker.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Axton Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theater as a gunner with the 798th and 465th Anti-Aircraft Weapons Battalions.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Peggy Reaves Barker of the home; one daughter, Susan B. Edwards of Belews Creek, N.C.; one son, Andrew Barker Jr. of Axton; two sisters, Marie B. Frye and Eloise Barker, both of Axton; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Tony Lundy officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
