Dwayne "Dewey" Ellerton of Pine Haven, WY, 67, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at his home.
Dwayne was born July 13, 1944, in Hot Springs, SD, to Kenneth L. Ellerton I and Alice (Mihills) Ellerton.
He graduated High School in Custer, SD, in 1963; he continued his education and graduated from Denver Automotive School in 1966.
He met the love of his life, Barbara Parris, who he married one year later October 1968. He started his career with the US Forest Service in Custer until they moved to Spearfish, SD 1971, where they raised their two sons, Timothy and Kenneth. Dewey worked for the US Forest Service Spearfish office from 1971 and retired in 2002.
Dewey and Barbara started to build their dream home in Pine Haven, WY, in 2003, with the help of his two sons, brother-in-law, Tom Marr, his friends from the Spearfish US Forest Service, and many friends from Pine Haven. Many laughs, sweat, and unmentionable antics occurred in this process.
Dewey spent his "retirement" years working as Superintendent of Public Works in Pine Haven from 2005 until his death.
Dewey was a devoted family man, spending time with his grandkids, fishing and camping, and of course driving his Rhino through the Black Hills, which there wasn't a forest service road he didn't know. Barbara insists it was his way of making sure the roads were still in good condition. Prior to his death he was planning, which he always planned, yet another hike with his grandkids around Devils Tower. Dewey was nothing, if not organized.
Few people actually remember Dewey ever sitting still. In addition to working and being a devoted family man, he was involved in numerous volunteer organizations. To name a few, Custer Volunteer Fire Department from 1967 to 1971, and Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 1998. He was also a member of the National Guard.
Dewey was preceded in death by his mother, Alice (Mihills) Ellerton; a sister, Janice Burnside; and grandchild, Avery Ellerton.
He left a loving family including his father, Kenneth L. Ellerton I; his wife, Barbara Ellerton; sons, Timothy L. Ellerton (DeeAnn), Kenneth L. Ellerton II; sisters Connie Frease (Terry) and Terri Morrison(Bill); grandchildren, Eli, Cyndal, Jilianne, Ethan, and Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family members, Jessica (Frost) Ellerton, and Mike Kyte (Wynetta).
The family expresses a very special thanks to Rhonda Schild and family.
Memorial services for "Dewey" will be held Friday, June 22, 2012, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Inurnment will be Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Pine Haven Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Spearfish Fire Department and the Town of Pine Haven.
