SHREVEPORT, LA- Graveside services for Betty Bass Bloxom, 86, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Summer Grove Baptist Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Frank Eppinette. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside.
Betty went to be with the Lord June 12, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She was born October 22, 1925 in Shreveport, LA. Betty spent her childhood growing up in the Queensboro area and graduated from Fair Park High School. While in high school she met the love of her life, A. R. (Bobby) Bloxom and was married October 3, 1942. Betty moved to California during World War II to be near Bobby when he was assigned shore-duty after serving in the South Pacific. This October they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. After the war, she returned to Shreveport, built a home with her husband and started a family. Betty was very active in the community as a member of the Hathers Women's Club and a driving force behind the scenes at the Caddo Rifle and Pistol Club. She attended Lakeshore Baptist Church in the children's earlier years and was a faithful member of Ford Park Baptist Church until her death. Betty had a full and varied professional career working as secretary to the stage band of Jan Garber during the big-band era. She spent many years working in the tire industry with the 707 Tire Company and the Goodyear Tire Company. She also worked and retired from Bird Roofing Company in Shreveport. Upon her and her husband's retirements in the early 1980's, they bought a motorhome, one of many to come, and traveled the country together, visiting all 50 states. Betty was often the navigator for Bobby and the entire Pelican Travelers Motorhome Club. Although she enjoyed the outdoors, her idea of roughing it was staying at the Holiday Inn. She and Bobby attended many NASCAR races and went to Daytona for many years. Betty was a true Southern Lady in every way. It was said that she never sweated in her life, she just glistened. Betty was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She supported her children in every endeavor and made sure that they would succeed in school and life itself. She will be missed by all that was fortunate to meet her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ophra Bass and brother, Wade Bass.

She is survived by loving husband, Bobby; daughter Beverly Bloxom Denton and husband David Denton of Fort Worth Texas; son Don Bloxom and wife Sharon Swink Bloxom of Shreveport; 2 grandsons; Scott Denton and wife Kelsie of Houston Texas; and grandson Bobby Bloxom of Shreveport; two great-grandchildren Makenna Denton and Madelyn Denton of Houston Texas and a third great-granddaughter to be born in August 2012.
